Today's team lunch took us to Ellison's Bistro across from the bus terminal in Kitchener. It's the kind of place that you pass by all the time but don't really take note of. Actually, when I first heard that we were going for Caribbean, I thought of Rainbow in Kitchener. As much as like Rainbow, I'm very glad we went here instead, Ellison is fantastic! (yes, both the man and the restaurant). The ambience was 10x better, and the food was amazing. I normal go for a goat roti, but he'd advertised a vegetable roti so I had to try it. One bite put the thought of goat out of my mind. From what I heard, the seafood jambalaya, jerk berger, and mo-bay jerk chicken wrap were awesome too. Highly recommended for anyone, in particular those who like they're food spicy, but not painful. They have some not-too-spicy dishes, but the fun is in the spicy dishes.
Ellison also gives lessons. I asked about how to start cooking Caribbean food, and he suggested that if I get 5 or 6 people together he'd teach a class. Didn't get a price, as I didn't think I could get that many people. Then he offered to sell me his spice mix, so I now have a small sample of his jerk spice and I'll likely head back next week to get a jar.

That place is really good, although I still love Rainbow.
